Extra Protection
Horseflynet introduces a new way to shade run-in sheds and barns against sun and bugs. The see-though net is made of heat-sealed vinyl polyester and, according to manufacturers, is resistant to rain, rot and UV rays. Flies are reduced because they are deterred by the shade and cannot pass through the material.

Be Prepared
To combat the effects of Equine herpesvirus (EHV), Pfizer Animal Health has introduced Zylexis, an immunomodulator which has been in use for nearly a decade in Germany. Zylexis is thought to work by preparing the horse’s immune system, in advance, to function more efficiently against EHV types 1 and 4 pathogens and is offered specifically as an aid in reducing upper respiratory disease caused by the viruses.
While an immunomodulator can’t prevent a horse from contracting a disease such as EHV, it can help reduce the severity of upper respiratory symptoms, enabling the horse to recover more quickly. EHV is of particular concern for those horses that travel to events as it is highly contagious.

Natural Treatment
For most skin conditions and surface injuries comes BooBooGoop, an equine salve. Wellmark introduces the PreStrike Mosquito Torpedo, a tablet designed to stop mosquitoes from emerging from standing water, such as animal watering troughs. According to manufacturers, the Torpedo provides 60 days of control and can treat more than 100 square feet. The product is designed to be safe for animals, humans and vegetation.
